Riff Raff 1I recently played the delightful game Riff Raff from Zoch zum Spielen and have to say it is quite delightful. The basic premise of the game is you are trying to load cargo onto a ship without it falling off, the catch is the boat you are loading can wobble in to axises and has a heavy counterweight on the bottom which simulates the boat riding on the waves.

Riff Raff is a dexterity based game that is tons of fun to play. Each turn players place bids with their cards to determine who gets to place their cargo first and where they have to place it; the higher numbers go first, but also have to place their cargo higher in the rigging.

Any cargo you cause to fall from the ship goes into your supply of cargo, but if you catch the cargo as it falls it is removed from the game. The first player to run out of cargo in their supply wins!

The bidding process makes the placement and timing of cargo placement much more interesting. We ultimately decided to each shuffle our bidding decks and randomly determine what our bid was each time. Another wrinkle we put it was to have the other players vote as to which piece of cargo we had to place.

We had a ton of fun playing this game and I would most definitely like to add it to my game collection. I could also see this game making a great drinking game with all sorts of potential hilarity. While this game most certainly is not very complex, it ends up having more strategy than you would think. I give this game a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
