An Iron Painter’s Quest 2016, Episode 11: Power-Up!

Now that there’s only about a week left until my second round entry for Iron Painter 2016, it’s time that I turn this piece up to 11 and go for a power-up!

If you take a look at some of the previous work in progress photos from this piece you can quickly see that I decided to change the layout of the scene; I felt the previous layout wasn’t dynamic enough. I also couldn’t come up with a logical way for the Tesla coils to connect to the large central gear. After some trial and error I came up with a layout that feels at the same time more dynamic and more functional from an engineering standpoint.

Once I had my layout complete, it was time to turn the power on! With everything solidly in place, I started positioning the lightning bolts which will suspend Ramos between the Tesla coils. The plan is to have a pair of load-bearing lightning bolts supporting Ramos between the coils and then have other lightning bolts that I will attach once I have Ramos and the base┬ápainted so that the lightning doesn’t get in the way during painting.

Now that I have everything fabricated, it’s time to actually get some paint on this thing! I will be priming everything tonight an hopefully start painting tomorrow. Check back soon to see how this comes together!
