The first day of Gen Con 2016 is in the books and what a day it was!

It’s getting late and I’m exhausted from the running around at Gen Con today, but I wanted to make sure I shared this with you all before I head to bed to get ready for tomorrow.

In the morning rush today I picked up a copy of the new Cthulhu version of Pandemic that looks really cool–instead of fighting diseases you’re fighting cultists who are trying to summon the Great Old ones. The game looks like a really cool twist on a game night favorite and comes with some really cool looking miniatures.

After Z-Man games, I headed next door to Wyrd Miniatures for my annual Malifaux shopping spree. From the quick look I’ve had at the new “Ripples of Fate” book, the new masters are really cool and there are going to be a ton of really great new models that will support not only them but also┬áthe existing masters.

I also had the opportunity to check out the miniatures games Arena Rex and Guild Ball; these games seem to be two nice, small sized games with cool mechanics and great models.

Later in the afternoon I played a demo of the Wyrd Miniatures RPG “Through the Breach” and had a blast. Similar to Malifaux, Through the Breach uses a deck of cards to determine the success or failure of actions instead of dice. I had a blast playing the quick little demo game and would love to try to get a Through the Breach campaign going with my Malifaux friends once I get home.

The day for me ended with a 16-person, 50 soulstone Malifaux tournament. The tournament did not go nearly as well as I had hoped it would–I lost a well fought game first round, got stomped second round when everything that could go wrong for me did and everything that could go right for my opponent did. After a noodle and beer break, I came back with fate more on my side and won the final round 10-1. I had a really great time and played against 3 really great opponents (two of whom came all the way from Australia for Gen Con!) who were tons of fun to play against.

So, here are photos from our days’ adventures:

My plans for tomorrow include much more browsing of the vendor floor to demo new games. I’m also taking a couple miniatures painting classes and a miniatures sculpting class, so I’m super excited to hopefully learn some new stuff to take my hobbying to the next level!

If you happen to know of any great games that are being demoed at Gen Con, let me know so that I can make sure I don’t miss them. I’m exhausted, but ready to get some more gaming in tomorrow!

The adventure continues on Gen Con day 2!
