Stitched #2

An old maxim exists amongst miniature gamers that if you are waiting for the plastic version of a miniature to come out, it won’t come out until you finish painting the metal version of it. To everyone who has been waiting for Wyrd to come out with the plastic Stitched Together kit, you’re welcome–Wyrd just announced the release date for these creepy bags of guts in their latest newsletter.

Canine Remains #2

Not only do these pups want to play fetch, but they also hunger for brains! I am pleased to present you with the latest edition to Marcus’ Magnificent Menagerie, my rotting pack of Canine Remains!

WiPWednesday 2-17 #1

Once again Wednesday has arrived and with it comes the time to share what’s been on your painting table over the last week–it’s Work in Progress Wednesday! This week for me has been all about details; I have several projects  that are to the detailing stage and looking great so far.

Hounds #10

Many philosophers over the years have posited answers to the immortal question, “Who let the dogs out?” I am here to tell you that it was, in fact, Marcus who let the dogs out. Marcus has released these Guild Hounds from their enslavement by the corrupt Guild and welcomed them to the freedom that comes with membership in Marcus’ Magnificent Menagerie; they shall henceforth be known as Arcanist Hounds!

Mauler #4

Coming from the frozen mountains north of Malifaux city, this Slate Ridge Mauler is truly fearsome predator, but deep down he really just wants to give you a hug; with four arms, it’s fair to say that he’s twice as good at giving hugs as your average bear!

Once again Work in Progress Wednesday is here, so it’s time for all good hobbyists to share what they’ve been working on! This week, I’ve been quite productive–I’ve done some detailing work on the Sigismund commission I’ve been working on (I swear that I’ll actually finish him one of these days, Chris!), started and nearly finished the new plastic Slate Ridge Mauler for Malifaux (this model we surprisingly quick to paint up), primed all of the terrain new terrain I showed you in my WiP Wednesday post last week, used my airbrush to put the basecoat on all of the old west buildings, and started the process of transferring my GW paints into dropper bottles for more efficient use and longer life. All in all, I would say that I got quite a bit done this week!

With how far I have gotten on the Slate Ridge Mauler, I am confident that I will be able to share the completely finished model with you by the end of the week. It has been far too long since I have shown off anything finished. With how well the Guild Arcanist Hounds have been working for me in-game and how little work I have left on those, hopefully they won’t be too far behind.

What have you been working on?

WiPWednesday 1-27 #8

Work in Progress Wednesday this week is all about making my gaming world a better place, on and off the table. Last week I decided that I want to get the Malifaux scene in the friendly local game shop closest to me going again; I’ve recently gotten a few of my gaming friends who live near me into Malifaux and most of the shops in Houston where there’s a Malifaux scene are at least a 30 minute drive from all of us. (more…)

In last week’s installment of Work in Progress Wednesday I said I was working hard to get back into the swing of things with painting. Shortly after that post, Wyrd Games had a contest on Twitter to show off your full Malifaux collection; showing off my full Malifaux collection, including the unpainted and/or unbuilt “stack of shame,” worked to motivate me to get my ass in gear with painting and organizing my never-ending pile of projects. This means I actually made some progress for Work in Progress Wednesday!!!

My Canine Remains and Guild Hounds are turning out to be a lot of fun to run with Marcus, so I decided they need to be the next Malifaux models I finish off; I hope to finish them quickly as they are all small models and I have a solid idea as to how I want them to look. I also worked on some of the details on the Sigismund commission that I have been taking far too long to complete (I’m sorry, Chris!). Conveniently I’m using the same colors for the metal and black details on Sigi as I’m using for the metal armor and bodies of the Guild Hounds, so I can hop between the those two projects.

By this time next week I’ll hopefully have these pups ready for basing if not completely finished and have Sigismund’s details finished off so that I can undertake the process of layering the yellow of his armor. Check back next week to see what I accomplish!

What have you been working on this week?

Merry Christmas!!!

Wyrd Miniatures and DriveThruRPG teamed up to have a great holiday giveaway–you had about 24 hours to post a photo of you, a Malifaux or Through the Breach book, and some holiday cheer and then share it with them before the Wyrd team left the office on the 23rd and they would send you a mysterious gift of digital copies of something from Wyrd’s catalog. I decided to have a little fun with the photo and do a recreation of the cover of the Malifaux 2E Rules Manual with a holiday twist and it turned out too good not to share.

The afternoon of the 23rd I was surprised with the e-mails from DriveThruRPG containing free downloads of the full Malifaux M2E Rulebook, Shifting Loyalties, the Through the Breach Fated Almanac, and a Through the Breach Penny Dreadful One-Shot Adventure! Promotions like this are one of the major reasons why Wyrd is such a great company, so a million thanks to them!

I also wanted to wish the various denizens of the Internet who happen to find my little corner a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Joyous Saturnalia, Happy Hanukkah, Superb Solstice, Kick-ass Kwanza, Fantastic Festivus, and Fabulous Festivities which I may have forgotten!!!

The wizened old fortune teller had seen that Hank would find a wealth of crystals in the mountains; at least she hadn’t swindled him out of that scrip, thought Hank bitterly as the ice closed in around him…

Wyrd Miniature’s Rotten Harvest Painting Contest is over, which means that I can finally show you all something that I have been dying to share with the world. The above photo was my entry in the Rotten Harvest Painting competition in the “A Hero’s Demise” category, which was the diorama category in this competition; my entry is titled “Cold Comfort”. The rules of the contest meant that I wasn’t allowed to share this anywhere or mention what my entry was until after voting in the contest had closed. Well, all of the votes are in, the winners announced, and I’m please to tell you that my piece received 1st place in its category! (more…)
